TRAINING
Audra Centre Neurofeedback has facilities for small group training, and details of anything that is planned will be available here.
There are only a few people in New Zealand currently trained and equipped to offer the service of neurofeedback. A larger number utilise other forms of biofeedback.
Jan is a member of the Biofeedback Society of New Zealand Inc. and some of her learning about this field has come from Conferences or Workshops run by the Biofeedback Society, featuring either presenters from overseas or our own members.
Some of us have had the majority of our training overseas.
Training in Neurofeedback in New Zealand is likely to remain infrequent, until there is an increase in people interested and committed to preparing themselves to offer this worthwhile aid to healthcare. Greater numbers will share the cost, making it more affordable.
The Biofeedback Society has been investigating ways to make gaining qualification in Biofeedback and Neurofeedback possible for New Zealanders, though doing this is difficult with few people available to do the work. New members and new energy would help things along.
Biofeedback does not belong to any one health profession area, and is done by people from most health professional fields. No-one has all the learning they need from their initial education, so there are new things to be learned. Membership of a society that focuses on feedback training, is an achievable way to gain up to date info and benefit from sharing with and learning from others who use this tool in all its forms. There is also benefit from association with clinicians from other fields and other biofeedback organisations around the world. Ongoing education is essential for keeping abreast of developments in the field and regular, ongoing email discussion is another way for neurofeedback practitioners to develop and improve their skills.
Though there has been a fair amount of research spanning 40 or so years, there is plenty still to be done. It would be good to get research going in New Zealand Universities and other health professional training and work institutions.
Other training opportunities can be listed here also, or these can be located by referring to the overseas web addresses mentioned elsewhere on this page.
Neurofeedback is exciting, new and interesting, challenging, barrier pushing, educative and mind opening, sometimes frustrating, satisfying, wonderful work. Experienced professionals often become involved, thinking it will be a helpful adjunct for their more challenging clients. Their usual experience is, that neurofeedback becomes a more frequently than anticipated, part of their practice. For their comments - see ‘what health professionals say’ on this site.
